Flood Study Meeting Scheduled

When: Monday, October 26 from 7:00 - 8:30

Where: Schoharie Central School

The Mohawk River Coalition will hold a Flood Study Kickoff Meeting at the Schoharie Central School’s Auditorium on Monday October 26th, 2015 from 7:00pm till 8:30pm. The school is located at 136 Academy Drive, Schoharie, NY 12157.

Five (5) counties within the Mohawk Watershed Coalition have received funding to complete a comprehensive flood mitigation study of the Schoharie Creek, and some of its major tributaries. This funding was made available through the New York Department of State Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP). It is also a large part of Phase 1 of the Mohawk River Watershed Management Plan Implementation.

The primary purpose of this event is to have engineers and officials meet the public and discuss flood issues in an open forum. The engineers will also explain the process that is used to collect information related to the watershed, which can be used to determine the best ways to mitigate the flooding problems discussed. There will be a short presentation which will outline key components of the study method, followed by a question and answer session where participants can interact with one another. The evening will include a tabletop discussion where maps of the watershed will be available for viewing and added discussion.

This meeting will be the first of a series of meetings that will take place as this project commences over the next several months.
