Not only used for syrup production, but also considered a shade tree and an ornamental due to its vibrant fall colors. At maturity it can reach heights of 60-75 feet with a spread of 40-50 feet.
This tree prefers full sun and partial shade in deep well-drained soils ranging from acidic to slightly alkaline.
Commonly browsed by white-tailed deer, moose, and snowshoe hair. Squirrels feed on the seeds, buds, twigs, and leaves.
