Betula nigra
4 years old, 1-2 feet tall.
As its name would suggest, it grows naturally along river banks, but can be planted nearly anywhere as a landscape tree as it is tolerant of wet soils, moderate flooding, and some drought. It also has some resistance to birch borer.
It is a shade and ornamental tree that can reach 40-70 feet in height. It prefers full sun to partial shade and various soil types that are slightly acidic.
